Bradenton.

Bradenton is home. The shop is on 25th Street West, which puts most of this city within about ten minutes of the truck. The housing stock here is remarkably consistent once you have worked in it for a while: single storey concrete block homes on slab, low pitched roofs, terrazzo or tile underfoot, jalousie windows on the older ones, and carports rather than garages. It is good stock. It was built solidly and it has stood up to sixty years of Gulf weather. The floor plans were simply drawn for how people lived in 1965.

That is most of what we do here. Opening the kitchen into the dining room, rebuilding the single hall bathroom the whole house shares, pulling up carpet and finding original terrazzo underneath, replacing tired siding and soffit, and putting a proper covered space on the back of the house. The advantage of neighbourhoods built from a handful of repeated plans is that we have almost certainly worked on the same layout before, and we can usually tell you which walls are carrying load and roughly what the job runs before we have finished the walkthrough.
